A Sacrifice Honorable Unto The Lord!

Genesis 4:4-5
"And Abel also brought an offering, of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And the LORD had regard for Abel and for his offering, but did not have regard for Cain and for his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast."

Many believers wonder why God had regard for Abel's offering while Cain's was rejected, and many even misinterpret this scripture to imply that God is partial.

Now, let's take a look at a few things:

1. THE NATURE OF THEIR OFFERINGS!

We understand from scriptures that Abel presented a sacrifice from his flock; he selected the best of his sheep, and this reflected not just his gratitude but also his devotion to and honor for God.

From this act, we can tell that Abel had a good understanding of the importance of giving his best and recognizing God's sovereignty.

Cain, on the other hand, offered fruits from the ground, which, while valuable, did not carry the same weight of intentionality in sacrifice and personal investment.

Obviously, the quality of their sacrifices before God was about heart posture and intention, and even till today, this is what God still looks at.

2. THE ATTITUDE BEHIND THE OFFERING!

Abel's offering was prepared in faith and sincerity of heart, which symbolizes a genuine relationship with God (Hebrews 11:4).

Cain, on the other hand, approached his offering with a sense of obligation and entitlement rather than true reverence and appreciation, and this we see from the way he prepared his offering and his response to God's rejection of his offering and acceptance of his brother's offering.

This tells us that God's regard is not just based on the physical act of giving but also on the spiritual and heart posture of the giver.

GOD IS NOT AS INTERESTED IN YOUR OFFERING AS HE IS IN YOUR HEART OF COMMITMENT TO HIM!

Summarily, from Cain's reaction after his offering was rejected, we see that his heart was not right which confirms in the first place why his offering was rejected.

A right heart would reflect on his shortcomings and seek to improve!

Dear Believer,

True worship stems from an authentic/pure heart seeking communion with the Lord and this is what the Lord seeks beyond all else!

TRUE WORSHIPPERS!

The peace and grace of our dear Lord be multiplied unto you!

AMEN!
