Understanding times & seasons

For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 NLT

Just as the farmer has his planting season and harvesting season and understands timing for all his crops well enough for those crops to yield profitably for him, so does every believer have his times and seasons and for each believer, these times and seasons may differ.

For instance, a professional farmer understands that there are crops that do better in the rainy season while some other crops will do better during the dry season and so if he takes a crop that does better during the dry season and plants it in the rainy season, he will only be setting himself up for losses/failure so he waits/prepares for the planting season of each crop before he plants it.

He also pays keen attention to his harvest season as for every crop there is a harvest season (after the crop has gone through it's waiting/nurturing/maturity phase) and prepares his tools for harvest ahead of the harvest season so we can see that between the planting and the harvest season for the farmer, there is also the waiting season in which he doesn't just sit around doing nothing during this season but ensures the plants are properly watered/nurtured and also prepares his tools for harvest including his barns (capacity increase) to take in the harvested crops.

The life of the believer can be likened to this process as every believer has 3 major seasons/phases of life; planting/sowing season, waiting/nurturing/preparation season and harvest/rewards season and for each believer, these seasons differ i.e brother John might very well be in his planting season now while brother Pius is in his own harvest season and vice versa.

Having understood this, it will be very wrong for any believer to use another believer's current season to rate his own progress as times and seasons differ for each believer.

Scriptures tell us something very interesting about the sons of Issachar, they were men who very well understood times and seasons (1 Chronicles 12:32); these men didn't just understand times and seasons but they also understood what to do in every season and how to maximize these times and seasons.

God clearly tells us in our anchor scripture and if we read down to verse 6 that for everything under the heavens, there is an appointed time.

Dear believer,

There is an appointed time for you to labor in the kingdom and a time to reap the rewards, a time for you to be married, yet a time for you to be all about the Father's business, a time for you to have children, a time for you acquire knowledge, there is simply a time that the Lord has appointed for that thing you are so desperately trusting Him for right now.

Maybe you are currently in your seedtime/planting season, your focus should be going all out for the Lord in kingdom labors and building capacity for what is coming.

Remember that the farmer does not just plant seeds and leave them on their own, he tends to them to ensure they are well watered and nurtured while waiting for the harvest season and also ensuring his barns are well prepared enough to take in all his expected harvest.

You have 3 seasons; planting, waiting and harvest.

Having planted/sown in kingdom labors, understand that God is not unjust to forget as He is a great rewarder but as you anticipate the fulfilment of that promise/prophecy, as you joyfully and graciously await that reward, it is very important that you make good use of your waiting season in preparing for the harvest/fulfilment, ensure to grow in intimacy with Father daily, water your seeds of service with much more service, commitment, honor, praise and prayers/a solid relationship with the Lord and men, grow and increase in capacity, read books to prepare you for where you are going, take trainings and courses as the need arises, become better/work and walk consistently towards perfection in the Lord so that your harvest season does not meet you unprepared.

A wise pregnant woman during her pregnancy period doesn't just rejoice at the fact that she carries seed and would soon bear fruit but takes the time, effort and resources to prepare for her baby's arrival.

Don't be like the 5 foolish virgins in Matthew 25:1-13!

Carry extra oil!

How well are you preparing for that long awaited promise?

How prepared are you for that new job you are trusting God for?

How prepared are you for that business expansion you so greatly desire?

How prepared are you for that new assignment the Lord has been speaking to you about?

How prepared are you for that Godly marriage you so greatly desire?

Receive grace to understand and maximize times and seasons!

Understand also that even the farmer who is in his harvest season still prepares to plant some other crops for that season/is planting some other crops so even for every harvest season be sensitive enough to understand what seeds God will have you plant for the next phase.

God has clearly told us in Gen 8:22 that as far as the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest will not cease!

Planting never ends and so harvest continues at different seasons and so does waiting/preparation for next phases of life's journey/destiny.

Simply discern each season at each time!

The peace and grace of our dear Lord be multiplied unto you!
